MEET THE OWNERS, TROY AND MEGAN NICKO
SiSu® Dance Academy is locally owned by Troy and Megan Nicko. It is their brainchild and a part of their family legacy, resulting from their passion for serving others within personal ministry.
Troy was born and raised in Louisiana. A veteran of the United States Army, he went on to serve the public as a Paramedic. Troy moved to Albuquerque in 1997 where he joined his family's business, building quality homes until 2008. At that time Troy made the commitment to support his community and joined the Albuquerque Police Department. Now Troy serves and trains officers at the Albuquerque Police Academy. We thank Lt. Nicko for his continued service, not only to the greater Albuquerque community but to the individual families who are a vital part of SiSu® Dance Academy.
Megan was born and raised in Albuquerque. She met Troy in 2001 when she purchased a home from Troy’s family business. Theirs is a story of love at first sight; Megan and Troy were engaged 3 weeks after they met, married 4 months later, and became expectant parents within another two months. God’s grace continues to bless them and carry them through life's trials and joys. Troy and Megan's son attends the Country’s 2nd highest military school in the USA. Troy Jr. plans on serving his country after high school and completing two years of college at NMMI. He hopes to specialize as a Game Warden. Troy and Megan's daughter, Faith is homeschooled, dances 6-7 days a week, studies piano and voice, and even manages to fit in gymnastic private classes. Like her dancer Mama, Faith has been dancing since she was 2.5 years old. She loves to work with the young dancers who attend SiSu® and hopes to progress in the dance world as she grows up.
When it came time to name the academy, Megan prayerfully considered options. She wanted the name to be meaningful and was searching Pinterest, asking for guidance, when Sisu popped up. Sisu is a Finnish concept described as stoic determination, the tenacity of purpose, grit, bravery, resilience, and hardiness. It is generally considered not to have a literal equivalent in English. For anyone who has known Megan throughout her lifetime, this concept word defines her accurately.
Troy and Megan work hard to bring a safe and wholesome atmosphere to SiSu® Dance Academy. Megan teaches most of the classes at her academy, mentors teachers, and serves the Cecchetti Councilor America Committee. Meanwhile, Troy is often seen around the complex, either building things the academy needs to enhance class time or serving during the Dance Company's production season. He also enjoys interacting with the dancers' families when time allows.
The Nicko family's mission for SiSu® Dance Academy is to bring safe dance training to all dancers, whether they want a professional career or are dancing for the pure enjoyment of the art. SiSu® Dance Academy is a huge part of their lives and they hope it will be a blessing to many families for years to come.
